A New Comfy Hoodie and an 8-Legged Genius

by Tia

There are some characteristics our esteemed tidal pool friend, the octopus, has that I truly admire. But there is one that I don’t envy at all… This mysterious, smart, soft-bodied, eight-limbed cephalopod was the inspiration behind Octohoodie.

One lazy Sunday, my children and I snuggled into our large corduroy “Vetsak,” far from the sea and the beach life we so love, to watch “My Octopus Teacher.” As we settled into our cosy space, I realised that this ocean sensation had a few attributes that I could use in my own mom life.

1. Eight Active Arms:

As a parent, there are moments when I feel like I need at least eight arms to keep up with everything. Off to the beach with my kids, I juggle the beach bag, Octohoodies, wetsuit, and, of course, the dog on a lead. If only I had more than two arms, life might be a tad easier. Imagine having those extra limbs to help when you’re rushing out the door with snacks, sunscreen, and excited children in tow!

2. Limb Replacement:

The octopus can regenerate a functioning arm if it’s lost. As much as I appreciate modern medicine, it’s not quite at that level yet! How many times have I wished I could replace a lost item in an instant? Like the time my toddler “borrowed” my keys for an imaginary car ride, and we were late for school. Regenerating lost items—or even lost energy—would be a true superpower for parents.

3. More Than Enough Grey Matter:

Did you know octopuses have nine brains—one central and eight mini-brains? It makes me wonder how many times I’ve needed an extra brain or two. Between helping with homework, managing the household, and trying to keep up with work, having a few more brains might help me stay on top of things. Perhaps it would have saved me from that epic meltdown over a grade 5 math problem!

4. Blue Blood:

Octopuses are the true royalty of the seas, with blue blood running through their veins. There are days when I wouldn’t mind a bit of royal treatment myself. Instead of always being the one to open doors, pack lunches, and do the school run, it would be nice to have a moment of pampering. But then again, the joy on my child’s face when I’m there to help makes it all worth it. Even without the royal treatment, I wouldn’t trade these moments for anything.

However, there’s one thing I wouldn’t want from the octopus: three hearts. As a parent, my one heart already feels so full—full of love, joy, and sometimes worry. I can’t imagine the emotional rollercoaster of having three hearts, each one capable of breaking. My single heart is just the right size to hold all the love I have for my family.

And while I’m not about to sprout extra arms or develop a few more brains, I can at least wrap myself in the comfort of an Octohoodie. Designed with kids and parents in mind, it’s just gears you all up for fun! Whether it’s a day at the beach or a quiet afternoon at the pool, Octohoodie has you covered—literally.
