Hope in Full Bloom: A Spring High Tea for a Great Cause in Durban

by Charis Torrance
Celebrate spring at the Hope Blooms High Tea at Radisson Blu Durban Umhlanga — a PinkDrive fundraiser supporting breast cancer awareness.

Spring is in the air, and Durban is about to celebrate in style — with bubbly, blooms, and a beautiful cause. On Saturday, 25 October 2025 at 11am, the Radisson Blu Hotel in Umhlanga will host the Hope Blooms High Tea, a morning of elegance and empathy in aid of PinkDrive and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Pink Trucks, Big Impact

If you’ve ever seen those unmistakable pink mobile units on South African roads, you’ve seen PinkDrive at work. This dynamic non-profit organisation brings life-saving cancer screening and education directly to under-resourced communities.

In just one week in KwaZulu-Natal, PinkDrive delivered 2,251 health services, including 146 mammograms and 141 clinical breast exams — proof of the fundamental change they create.

A High Tea with Heart (and Sparkle)

Guests can expect a morning of elegance and inspiration complete with:

  • Welcome drinks and high tea delights
  • Raffle prizes and luxury goody bags
  • A live charity auction, aiming to raise R50 000 to fund PinkDrive’s free cancer screening services and contribute to a new mammogram truck

Last year’s event raised R25,000 — this year, the goal is to double the amount.

Meet the Inspiring Line-Up

The event will be hosted by Delia Kroll, Mrs South Africa 2024 finalist, and feature two powerful guest speakers:

  • Dr Marion Algar – Clinical Oncologist at Hopelands Cancer Centre, specialising in breast cancer treatment.
  • Advocate Pria Hassan – Founder of Women of Africa and pioneer of iBreast, an initiative expanding access to early detection.

Together, they’ll share stories of strength, healing, and hope.

Powered by Partnerships

The event is made possible through the continued support of Lee-Chem Laboratories (makers of Mandy’s) — long-time corporate partners of PinkDrive.

“This cause is deeply important to us,” says Bhavna Sanker, Marketing Manager at Lee-Chem Laboratories. “The Hope Blooms fundraiser perfectly reflects our shared commitment to awareness, screening, and bringing hope where it’s needed most.”

PinkDrive’s Janice Benecke adds: “Through sponsored events like Hope Blooms, we hope to inspire more partnerships and keep saving lives.”

A Morning of Hope and Healing

“Hope Blooms is about courage, resilience, and renewal,” says Benecke. “Just like flowers after winter, it reminds us that with awareness, support, and love, hope always grows.”

Her final words capture the spirit of the day:
“Only believe — all things are possible. I am a walking miracle.”
