Breadline Africa and PNA have teamed up once again for an unforgettable Funky Socks Day campaign, aiming to make a lasting impact on early childhood development and transform pre-schools in vulnerable communities across the country.
Breadline Africa, a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing early childhood development (ECD) in South Africa’s most vulnerable communities, is thrilled to announce the 2024 Funky Socks Day campaign in partnership with South Africa’s leading stationery and art materials retailer, PNA. Building on the incredible success of raising R1 million last year, which helped build schools and improve early childhood education, this year’s campaign is set to reach new heights.
This Year, Let’s Leave That Million-Rand Milestone in the Dust!
For every million rand raised, Breadline Africa can help fifty local pre-schools in need. So, the one-million-rand goal is just the beginning! All it takes is buying a R10 sticker to make a world of difference. This year, we’re switching things up a bit, and we think you’ll love it.
Building on the success of last year, where we supported five ECD centres in the Western Cape, Gauteng, and Eastern Cape provinces, we are eager to make an even greater impact in 2024. Last year, with the funds raised, we built two classrooms, an office, a sick bay, and toilet facilities for an ECD centre, providing crucial infrastructure to support early learning. This year we’re going even BIGGER to reach children across the whole of South Africa and Namibia by providing resource-rich educational school packs, supporting the children in the schools we built and beyond – reaching even more children in need.
Get Funky for a Good Cause.
The Funky Socks Day campaign is a nationwide initiative that brings together communities, schools, and families to support early childhood development (ECD). The funds raised will be used to provide vital school packs filled with educational resources and stationery to pre-schools in need. With your support, (and many R10 sticker purchases) we can make a significant impact on the lives of young children, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.
Why Early Childhood Development Matters
Investing in early childhood development (ECD) is crucial because the foundation for lifelong learning and development is laid during these formative years. Research shows that 90% of a child’s brain develops by the age of 5, making early interventions vital for cognitive, social, and emotional growth. Quality ECD programmes can significantly enhance a child’s readiness for school, improve academic performance, and increase future earnings. By supporting ECD initiatives, we are not only nurturing the potential of individual children but also fostering a stronger, more educated generation of future leaders.
Participating in the Funky Socks Day campaign is as easy as buying a R10 sticker and slipping on your funkiest pair of socks! You can purchase a Funky Socks Day sticker for just R10 at any of the 129 PNA stores across 9 provinces nationwide.
Don’t have funky socks? No problem.
You can buy a pair of colourful socks, also available at PNA stores, or, you can even funk up your own socks with decorations! Then, on Friday, 13 September 2024, wear your funky socks and show off your sticker to show your support and commitment to this worthy cause.
The Sock Doctor has pledged to contribute 100% of the sales from two specific designs in their range to Breadline Africa; there are 3000 pairs of these funky socks available in select PNA stores. Additionally, The Sock Doctor has generously pledged to donate more than 25,000 pairs of grey school socks to schools across the country. This partnership not only supports education but also ensures that children have the necessities to attend school comfortably.
