Reality? Overrated. Get ready to question everything you think you see, because the Museum of Illusions is officially landing in Cape Town and it’s bringing over 60 brain-bending, eye-popping illusions with it!
Opening Saturday, 31 May 2025, on Kloof Street, this mesmerising new spot is set to turn the Mother City upside down – literally. Already a global phenomenon, the Museum of Illusions has wowed visitors in cities like New York, Dubai, Paris, Shanghai and Joburg, and now it’s our turn to step into the surreal.
Following the Joburg launch in 2024 (which smashed global attendance records), Cape Town is about to raise the illusion game to new heights.

What’s the big deal?
Founded in Zagreb, Croatia back in 2015, the Museum of Illusions is now a worldwide hit with over 12 million visitors and counting. Each location is custom-designed, blending science, art and a whole lot of “how-is-that-even-possible?” moments into one mind-twisting experience.
“Cape Town’s creativity and curiosity make it the perfect home for our next sensory playground,” says Mark Collie, owner of Museum of Illusions South Africa. “This isn’t just a museum – it’s a space where science, art and wonder collide to challenge how we see the world and ourselves.”
Touch it. Snap it. Share it.
Forget the usual “no touching” museum rules – this one wants you to get stuck in! Visitors are encouraged to explore, snap pics, and interact with every illusion. Think gravity-defying rooms, disappearing heads, infinite reflections, and photo ops that’ll leave your followers very confused.
Some crowd favourites to look out for:
The Tilted Room: Where the laws of physics are more like suggestions
The Clone Table: Ever wondered what dinner with five versions of yourself looks like?
The Infinity Room: Because one of you is never enough
A good time for everyone
From curious kids to grown-ups who never lost their sense of wonder, the Museum of Illusions is the ultimate mix of fun and learning. Whether you’re planning a quirky date, a family day out, a team-building session or just want to level up your selfie game, this place delivers on all fronts.
Got a birthday bash, school trip or work function to organise? They’ve got custom event packages too – just bring your imagination.
