LeBron James Becomes Barbie’s First “Kenbassador”

Le Bron James Barbie

Barbie has gone and done it again, but this time, she’s passing the spotlight to Ken. And not just any Ken – we’re talking LeBron James Ken. That’s right, the basketball legend, author, philanthropist and all-round cultural icon is now officially a doll. And not just any doll – the first-ever professional athlete Ken doll, crowned with the newly minted title of Kenbassador. Because why should Barbie have all the fun?

According to Mattel (a.k.a. the people who gave us Stereotypical Barbie, Weird Barbie and Beach Ken), this new LeBron James doll is here to celebrate not only his slam-dunk skills, but his serious contributions to style, culture, and community upliftment. Move over Mojo Dojo Casa House – we’ve got ourselves a high-top-wearing, philanthropy-driven, motivational-quote-dropping Ken on the block.

And it’s not just about being easy on the eye (although yes, the doll is tall – a whole inch taller than your average Ken). LeBron himself worked closely with the Barbie team to create a look that’s pure him: a custom varsity jacket adorned with patches nodding to his life milestones (including his hometown Ohio, jersey number 23 and “We Are Family” message), layered over his foundation’s signature tee. Add in Nike Terminators, Beats headphones, sunnies, a fanny pack, a watch, and of course his iconic “I Promise” wristband – and you’ve got one seriously decked-out doll.

But here’s where it gets even cooler – this isn’t just about mini LeBron looking fly in plastic. Barbie is partnering with the LeBron James Family Foundation, which has been doing amazing work in Akron, Ohio, providing support for kids and families through education, housing, healthcare and job training. Think: real-world impact meets playtime.

As LeBron puts it, “As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what’s possible through hard work and dedication. Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to.” We love a full-circle moment.

And in true giving spirit, Mattel’s also pledged to donate a copy of LeBron’s children’s book I Am More Than to Save the Children for every Kenbassador doll sold at Target (in the U.S.) from 14–19 April, up to 5 000 copies. Literacy goals = unlocked.

Want one? Here’s the lowdown:

  • A very limited batch drops on 12 April at the UNDEFEATED store in Los Angeles – some signed by LeBron himself.
  • The full launch goes live 14 April online and at select retailers.
  • It’s a limited-edition Barbie Signature doll with an SRP of R1 969.99.
  • Prepare to act fast – because this isn’t just a toy. It’s a whole cultural moment.

Ken may have started as Barbie’s accessory, but with LeBron stepping into the role of the first Kenbassador™, we’re seeing a whole new narrative. It’s empowering, stylish, and sprinkled with just the right amount of nostalgia – and we are so here for it.

Now… who do we have to call to make Beyoncé Barbie next?
