Only two big-screen showings of OCEAN with David Attenborough at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas – 8 & 10 May!
Sir David Attenborough is turning 99 (yes, ninety-nine) today, 8 May, and what better way to celebrate the legendary naturalist’s near-century on Earth than by plunging into the planet’s most mysterious, marvellous and downright mesmerising realm: the ocean.
Ster-Kinekor is marking the occasion with two special big-screen showings of OCEAN with David Attenborough, a visually jaw-dropping documentary that dives headfirst into the depths of the sea – and reminds us just how vital and awe-inspiring our blue planet really is.
Narrated by the birthday boy himself, the film takes viewers on an immersive underwater journey through coral reefs, kelp forests and vast open waters, all while explaining why a healthy ocean is essential for life on Earth. As Attenborough says in the trailer: “After living for nearly 100 years on this planet, I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea. This is the story of our ocean and how we must write its next chapter together… For, if we save our sea, we save our world.”

Beautifully filmed by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios (you may know them from The Blue Planet and Our Planet), OCEAN doesn’t shy away from the tough stuff either. From the impact of destructive fishing techniques to coral bleaching events, the film pulls back the curtain on the challenges our oceans face, but with that signature Attenborough touch, there’s hope too. Expect uplifting stories from around the world that show just how resilient the ocean can be if we give it the chance.
Whether you’re an ocean lover, a lifelong Attenborough fan, or just someone who could use 90 minutes of pure wonder and inspiration, this is not to be missed.
