“I am because we are”
Last month, Ubuntu Baba hosted the Ubuntu Mama Event, an empowering and heartfelt gathering of mothers from across the community in honor of Women’s Month. Held at The Storm Centre, the event brought together moms of all backgrounds to celebrate motherhood, share stories, and uplift one another under the theme of “Ubuntu” – the spirit of togetherness and community.
A Celebration of Motherhood & Unity
The Ubuntu Mama Event, organized by Aamirah, PR & Community Manager at Ubuntu Baba, highlighted the resilience and strength of women, particularly mothers who continue to balance their roles as caregivers, leaders, and professionals. The day was filled with inspirational conversations and practical workshops, embodying the Ubuntu philosophy and reminding all in attendance that “I am because we are.”
Women’s Month was the perfect backdrop for this event, where participants reflected on the vital roles mothers play in society and the importance of supporting one another on this journey. It was also an opportunity for the Ubuntu Baba brand to celebrate and pamper these incredible moms.
Event Highlights
The event featured a dynamic range of activities and speakers, making it a truly memorable occasion:
Keynote Talks: Esteemed speakers and community leaders shared insights on the power of motherhood, resilience, and self-care, inspiring attendees to embrace their individual journeys. Ubuntu Baba also showcased their signature carriers, educating moms on their features and demonstrating how easy they are to use. Lauren Ellis, a women’s health physiotherapist, spoke on the importance and benefits of babywearing, especially for pelvic floor health.
Several moms and brand ambassadors shared their beautiful motherhood journeys, explaining how the Ubuntu Baba carrier helped them manage the challenges of motherhood. Shannon McLaughlin, the founder of Ubuntu Baba, shared her personal journey and success story.
Interactive Workshops: Attendees participated in a light Barre Fitness class led by Storm from The Storm Centre, focused on strengthening the pelvic floor, stress relief, and wellness for both the prenatal and postpartum phases.
Networking Opportunities: Moms connected with one another, sharing stories, building friendships, and expanding their support networks in a relatable and nurturing environment.
Wellness Corner: Katya from Yes I Am led a relaxing breathing meditation session, allowing mothers to recharge and reconnect with themselves.
Reflection on the Event:
“We are overwhelmed by the response and the sense of unity that Ubuntu Baba created,” says Aamirah. “Women’s Month is a time to honor the contributions of women, and this event reminded us of the incredible power we hold when we come together as mothers. Our intention was to embrace the spirit of Ubuntu and honor this tradition. We wanted to spoil, celebrate, and support one another, learn from each other, and create lasting memories. Thanks to our amazing sponsors we were able to. Every woman who attended left feeling inspired, rejuvenated, empowered, connected, and cherished, which is exactly what we hoped for.”
