Urgent Appeal to Save Isiseko Educare Centre in Damsebos, Knysna

by Media Xpose

Isiseko Educare Centre, a long standing cherished community preschool serving the children of Damsebos,Knysna is facing imminent closure due to severe safety hazards within its building.

Principal Brenda, who established the centre in 2006, has dedicated her life to nurturing and educating children. Now the future of the preschool hangs in the balance.

Originally starting in a one-room shack, Isiseko Educare Centre has grown significantly over the years, now accommodating 77 children. However, the condition of their building  poses a serious threat. The steel pipe foundation has rusted, leading to caved-in floors and large holes that endanger the children. Compounding the issue, dampness has caused a severe mould problem, posing a health risk for children and teachers.

“Isiseko means the foundation in Englishand this is basically where everything starts” said Principal Brenda. She added that although they had tried to place some of the children in different preschools, parents insist on sending their children to Isiseko because of its great reputation in the community.

Losing this preschool is simply not an option. A complete rebuild is necessary to address these urgent concerns. With the support of a few very generous donors, Knysna Education Trust has already raised R150,000. An additional R250,000 is needed urgently. If we are able to raise R400 000, Breadline Afrika will match this and coordinate the rebuild of Isiseko.

We ask community members and supporters to please invest in this preschool. No matter how small, each donation can make a significant impact. Please donate using the special note “Isiseko.”  This preschool has positively impacted the lives of countless children in our community. Brenda and her qualified, caring teachers need our support so that they can continue their important work.
