Struggling to find the perfect gift for your one-of-a-kind mum this Mother’s Day? Whether she’s a go-getter fire sign or a dreamy water baby, the stars have aligned to make your job a whole lot easier. Here are Mother’s Day gift ideas based on each zodiac element – guaranteed to earn you some serious brownie points this 11 May. Let the cosmic gifting begin!

If Mum’s a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): Kit her out for outdoor adventures

Fiery mums are passionate, energetic, and always ready for the next escapade. Whether she’s blazing a new hiking trail or planning a spontaneous weekend away, she needs a wardrobe that can keep up with her pace. Cue the Hi-Tec Hydro Jacket – a lightweight, waterproof wonder with breathable fabric and a handy stowaway hood. Basically, it’s the superhero cape every adventure-loving mum deserves.

Level up the gift by planning a little outing together. Pack her favourite trail snacks and hit one of South Africa’s scenic spots: think Newlands Forest in Cape Town, Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden in Joburg, or the lush Krantzkloof Nature Reserve near Durban. A dose of nature + quality family time = a Mother’s Day to remember.

If Mum’s a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): Breakfast in bed with a splash of bubbles

Water sign mums are sentimental souls. They live for heartfelt gestures and meaningful moments – so what better than a lovingly made breakfast in bed? Picture this: blueberry flapjacks, fresh juice, and a cheeky mimosa. Sounds like bliss, right?

Fluffy Blueberry Flapjacks
INGREDIENTS

  • 1¾ cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup milk (plus more if needed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1½ cups blueberries
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest

METHOD:
Whisk the dry ingredients in one bowl, the wet in another, then combine and fold in the blueberries and lemon zest. Pour ¼ cup of batter per pancake into a hot buttered pan, cook until bubbles form, then flip and finish cooking until golden.

Don’t forget the finishing touch – a Sir Fruit mimosa made with their zingy orange juice and Black Elephant Vintners’ Cap Classique Brut NV. With vibrant notes and a touch of elegance, it’s the perfect bubbly to toast your wonderfully intuitive mum.

If Mum’s an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): Win her over with a cocktail experience

Air signs are the social butterflies of the zodiac – curious, chatty and lovers of a good aesthetic. They appreciate unique experiences and a touch of flair, which is why a home cocktail-making session will go down a treat.

We recommend the Roku Sakura Blossom Fizz – a floral, citrusy delight using Roku Gin, which blends six Japanese botanicals for a refreshingly refined flavour.

Sakura Blossom Fizz
INGREDIENTS

  • 50ml Roku Gin
  • 15ml elderflower liqueur
  • 20ml lemon juice
  • 10ml cherry blossom syrup (or grenadine)
  • Soda water to top
  • Edible flowers or lemon zest, to garnish

METHOD:
Shake the gin, elderflower, lemon juice and syrup over ice. Strain into a pretty glass with more ice, top with soda water and add your flourish of flowers or zest. It’s light, floral, and fabulously fun – just like her.

If Mum’s an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): Gift her luxe loungewear

Grounded, reliable and all about the finer (yet practical) things in life, earth sign mums are low-key luxury queens. They’ll love a gift that ticks the comfort and style boxes – like a premium bamboo loungewear set from N3YH.

Locally made in Cape Town, these dreamy-soft sets are breathable, sustainable, and seriously chic. Whether she’s curling up with a book, catching up on her shows, or simply having a well-earned lie-in, she’ll be doing it in total style.

No matter her sign, the real magic lies in making her feel seen, appreciated, and thoroughly spoiled. When it comes to Mother’s Day gift ideas, it’s the thought, care and personal touch that count most. Add a handwritten card, a big hug, and a little quality time – and voilà! You’ve officially won Mother’s Day.
