Hold onto your napkins and your shopping baskets – two of South Africa’s most iconic kid-friendly brands are teaming up in a collab that’s straight out of a child’s wildest dreams. Ackermans and Spur have joined forces for a “for the kids, by the kids campaign that’s going to set little imaginations alight.

Yes, folks, this is the Design-a-Tee Competition, where young creatives can design their dream T-shirt and potentially see it stocked in real-life Ackermans stores this September. We repeat: your child could be a fashion designer before they’re even tall enough to ride a rollercoaster.

Inspired by those beloved Spur colouring-in sheets (you know, the ones your kids spend 45 minutes on while ignoring their chips), the competition is all about unleashing pint-sized creativity. Here’s how it works:

How to enter (it’s as easy as chicken nuggets on a Friday):

  1. Pick up a Design-a-Tee colouring sheet from any Spur or Ackermans store nationwide.
  2. Let your child create their dream T-shirt design (yes, glitter and unicorns are absolutely allowed).
  3. Upload their masterpiece to the Ackermans website before 30 April 2025.

And the prizes? Not to be sniffed at. The two lucky winners will see their designs produced and sold in select Ackermans stores – just in time for Heritage Month. And because being a fashion visionary deserves more than just a high five, each winner will also walk away with a cool R50 000 worth of Spur and Ackermans vouchers, plus a cash prize to boot.

“With family at the heart of both brands, we know that this collaboration will resonate with many South Africans nationwide. It’s about celebrating kids’ creativity, giving them a voice, and showing them that their ideas matter!” comments Bronwyn Pretorius, Chief Marketing Officer at Ackermans.

:Kids are the next generation of creators,” says Vuyo Henda, Chief Marketing Officer at Spur Corporation. “They’re already making waves on YouTube and TikTok, so why not in fashion too?”

Honestly, it makes total sense. Kids are out here building empires in Minecraft and editing full-blown skits on their tablets – designing a T-shirt? Child’s play.

So parents, grandparents, cool aunts and uncles – consider this your cue. Grab those crayons, fire up those felt tips, and let your little ones show South Africa what they’ve got.
