Forget school runs and lunchboxes – it’s holiday time! That means one thing: the kids are loose, and you need a game plan. Luckily, Ster-Kinekor has your back with a line-up of films featuring everything from fairytales to farm animals and even zombie zoo creatures (yes, really).
With Ster-Kinekor’s ultra-immersive IMAX, plush Cine Prestige, the seat-shaking D-Box experience, and the colourful Kids’ Cinemas (complete with slides and ball pits!), your biggest challenge will be deciding which movie to watch first.
A fairytale classic returns
First up, we’ve got Snow White, the latest live-action take on the timeless tale. This one’s got all the classics: a wicked stepmother obsessed with mirrors, seven helpful housemates, and a young woman whose main crime is simply being too pretty. Will Snow White escape the Queen’s evil clutches? Spoiler: probably, but it’s still a great watch.
A zombie zoo? Say no more!
If your kids love a little chaos, Night of the Zoopocalypse should be top of your list. It’s an animated horror-comedy (yes, that’s a thing) featuring a wolf and a mountain lion who must save their zoo from a virus that’s turning animals into, well, zombies. Think Zombieland meets Madagascar, but with way more mutant mayhem.
Talking pigs and nostalgia feels
For a trip down memory lane, Babe is back as part of Throwback Cinema – and at only R50 a ticket! This feel-good classic follows a pig who discovers he has a knack for herding sheep, much to the confusion of, well, everyone. Sweet, heartwarming, and full of farmyard charm, it’s a perfect pick for the whole family.
Minecraft mania hits the big screen
It’s finally here! The long-awaited A Minecraft Movie drops in cinemas on 4 April. Expect a wild ride as four misfits are sucked into the pixelated Overworld and must master the blocky chaos to get back home. If your kids are obsessed with Minecraft, prepare for many excited squeals.
Everybody loves Shrek
Another Throwback Cinema gem, Shrek is returning to the big screen. Join the grumpy green ogre as he embarks on a quest to reclaim his swamp, complete with talking donkeys, fire-breathing dragons, and one very feisty princess. And at just R50 a ticket, there’s no excuse to miss it!
More holiday hits
If none of these take your fancy (hard to believe), there are loads of other kids’ movies to catch, including Mufasa, Moana 2, Buffalo Kids, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Paddington in Peru, and Captain America: Brave New World.
The ultimate cinema experience
For younger kids, Ster-Kinekor’s Kids’ Cinemas – complete with slides, ball pits, and special seating – will keep them entertained before the movie even starts! You can find them at Sandton, Fourways, and Carnival City in Gauteng, and at Capegate and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
